Community work
I continue to be involved in a wide range of community and educational activities. I am the Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Custom House Studios and Gallery, Westport, of which I was a founding member. I am a member of the Wright Artists Co-operative. I am a member of Visual Artists Ireland, WestInk Society of Printers and Mayo Artists initiative. I have worked on murals, including a series that won a first prize in the cultural section of Co-operation North. I have designed and constructed many prize-winning floats. I have and continue to be a curator, organiser and participant of many art auctions and exhibitions.
Radio experience
For five years artist colleague Gráinne O’Reilly and I have researched, presented and produced ‘The Arts Show’ on Westport Radio. The programme interviews local, national and international artists from many genres and at various stages of their careers. This experience has sparked a renewed awareness in me of the value of sound and words and this new perspective became part of my practice consisting of collecting a series of very specific on location interviews which are worked into sound and visual installations.
